CSM donates over 11,000 items to Open Door Mission
College of Saint Mary donated a remarkable 11,181 food items to the Open Door Mission on Monday.
CSM began collecting food for its “Amazing Race Food Drive” on Oct. 30 with an original goal of raising 5,000 items. Just a few weeks later the university more than doubled its original goal. This year’s drive was a team-based competition which saw groups competing to see which team could donate the most items. It seems that friendly competition has now changed the lives of many in the Omaha area this holiday season.
“I can’t say thank you enough to everyone who participated and donated food over the last three weeks,” says Kris Czerwiec, Director of Student Leadership and Organizations. “Your contributions and spirit represent the heart of CSM and it is just another reason we should all be blessed to be a part of this fantastic community.”
Open Door Mission is a Gospel Rescue Mission founded in 1954 committed to breaking the cycle of homelessness and poverty. The shelter offers 816 beds to homeless men, women and children, and serves over 2,000 hot meals a day.
