CSM Professor Elected to Nebraska Chapter of Fulbright Association Board
OMAHA, Neb. – A College of Saint Mary (CSM) professor was recently elected to the Nebraska Chapter of the Fulbright Association board of directors.
Mark Gudgel, assistant professor of education at CSM, will serve with other Fulbrighters from various universities in Nebraska. In October, he will represent the chapter and CSM at FACON, the annual Fulbright convention in Washington, D.C.
“I ran for the board for two reasons,” Gudgel said. “The first was that I want to give back to the Fulbright Association, which has given so much to me. The second is because every day at College of Saint Mary, I’m surrounded by amazing professors who treat their students with dignity, dedicate themselves to quality teaching, and engage in important writing and research. As we move into CSM’s second 100 years, this felt like an opportunity for me to help make our gem of a university a bit less hidden.”
Gudgel received the Fulbright Distinguished Award in Teaching in 2013. He completed his research at the University of London Institute of Education and was subsequently awarded grants from the Fulbright Association to conduct further research.
“My experience as a Fulbright scholar was one of the most formational experiences of my academic career,” he said. “It was the single best professional development I’ve ever done and an experience I wish that everyone could have.”
