Panelists to focus on Dakota Access Pipe Line Protests and the experience of nonviolent demonstrations
College of Saint Mary will present a panel discussion on Friday, Nov. 18 at 6:30 p.m. in Gross Auditorium about the ongoing protests of the Dakota Access Pipeline project. The panelists include staff from Sitting Bull College and United Tribes Technical College, as well as a CSM student who took part in the demonstrations.
Historian mark Holman, library director at Sitting Bull College (formerly Standing Rock College), will discuss the events leading up to the protests, and present the three main reasons why the Standing Rock Tribe and their supporters are protesting. Holman will be joined by Camille Martelle, career counselor for United Tribes Technical College. College of Saint Mary student Meghan Krokaugger will also discuss her experiences in taking part in the demonstration efforts.
“The purpose of the presentation is to provide some background on the events and explain the reasons for the protests,” says Kristofer Czerwiec, director of student leadership and organizations, “as well as to gain insight in the experience of nonviolent protest.”
