Sweetwater Texas High School Student Receives $80,000 Scholarship to College of Saint Mary

College of Saint Mary (CSM), located in Omaha, Neb., is proud to announce that Mary Morris of Sweetwater, Texas, has been selected as a Marie Curie Scholar starting this fall at CSM. A surprise scholarship check presentation of $80,000 honored Mary on Friday, Jan. 22 at Sweetwater High School during her lunch hour. Mary is the daughter of Ronald & Tammy Morris. She plans to major in Chemistry and play Golf at CSM. Mary’s awards and honors while attending Sweetwater High School include:

  • National Honor Society (2015)
  • High School ACT/SAT Honor Roll (2014, 2015)
  • All-star Cast (University Interscholastic League, UIL) Theater (2015)
  • Girls Golf Team Member (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015)
  • Regional Qualifier Girls Golf (2015)
  • State Participant Best Robotics Competition (2014)
  • Texas Math and Science Coaches Association (Lego) Robotics State Qualifier (2015)
  • Marching Band UIL Member (2012, 2014)

College of Saint Mary’s prestigious Marie Curie Scholars Program, funded in part by the National Science Foundation, provides significant financial support and resources for academically talented young women who study science or math. Marie Curie Scholars may receive up to $20,000 annually for four years in gift aid – and participants also receive free tutoring, have opportunities for undergraduate research, may participate in National Institute of Health and NASA research fellowships, and attend and present at national conferences.
