High school teammates take their talents to CSM next year
COLUMBUS, Neb. – Two high school soccer teammates from Scotus Central Catholic in Columbus, Neb., signed their letters of intent Thursday to continue their athletic careers and education at College of Saint Mary. Kendra Wiese and Maggie Feehan will both join the Flames in the fall.
Wiese, the daughter of Gery and Christi, is a 5-4 midfielder who will also play golf at CSM. In high school she played soccer and basketball all four years, volleyball as a freshman and sophomore and then golf as a junior and senior.
She has been a state participant at Scotus for soccer, basketball and golf with her team and also qualified as an individual for golf. She was academic all-state for all three sports and also was all-state honorable mention in soccer.
"Kendra is technically strong and moves the ball very well in the midfield," CSM Interim Soccer Head Coach Jordan Irsik said. "She is a fearless competitor in everything she does. Kendra plays a very similar style to what we want to do and will have an impact on our midfield right away."
CSM Golf Coach Keri Rodriquez is excited Wiese will be a two-sport athlete for the Flames.
"Kendra will make a nice addition to the golf team," Rodriquez said. "She is a dedicated and hard-working student-athlete. Kendra has a lot of potential and I'm excited to see how far she'll go with her collegiate golf career."
Outside of sports, Wiese enjoys reading, fishing, playing cards, cooking, camping with family, watching movies and hanging out with friends. She plans to study biology at CSM.
"I chose College of Saint Mary because I felt very welcomed from the beginning," Wiese said. "I was impressed with their academic programs and the options that are available to me while pursuing a degree in biology. The staff and the coaches were great to talk to and it just felt like I fit right in. After meeting some of the players and talking more with the coaches – I knew CSM was the place for me."
Feehan is a 5-7 midfielder and is the daughter of Patrick and Kelly Feehan. She plans to pursue occupational therapy at CSM.
In high school, Feehan has played volleyball, soccer and basketball and has also helped the Scotus Central Catholic squad reach state tournaments in soccer and basketball. Scotus won the 2018 State Class C basketball championship earlier this month. Individually, she has been named all-conference honorable mention in soccer and basketball, state all-tournament team in basketball, second team all-state in basketball and academic all-state in all three sports.
Outside of sports she enjoys hiking with family, hanging out with friends and baking.
"CSM has a great occupational therapy program," Feehan said. "After visiting the campus and meeting the soccer team, it felt like a great fit for me."
Irsik thinks Feehan will also be a good addition to the Flames.
"I'm excited to have Maggie join the group," Irsik said. "She's a strong presence in the midfield and is tactically and technically well coached. She's a competitive three-sport athlete which shows in what she does on the field. Her work ethic on the pitch and in the classroom will make her a great fit for CSM."
