College of Saint Mary to Host 5th Annual El Camino Latino Conference

Friday, February 28, 2025

For the first time, the College of Saint Mary will host the 5th Annual El Camino Latino Conference, an event previously held at Bellevue University.

The conference, designed to connect Latino high school juniors and seniors with Omaha’s leading corporations and career opportunities, will take place on Friday, Feb. 28, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Warde Conference Center, Mercy Hall, on the CSM campus.

Registration is free and open until Friday, Feb. 21. While the event focuses on Latino students, it welcomes all high school juniors and seniors. Seniors attending will also be eligible to apply for college scholarships.

“Students can learn about the overall college experience, different career professions available, and, more importantly, know that college is possible for all,” says Katty Petak, senior director of alumni relations at CSM.

The event will feature Daniela Rojas, director of community leadership programs at the Greater Omaha Chamber, as the keynote speaker. Rojas will share her personal journey, offering a perspective that resonates with students as they consider their own paths. Throughout the day, representatives from some of Omaha’s top employers will discuss their companies, highlight career opportunities, and provide insights into navigating the workforce.

Students will also hear from two engaging panels: one featuring professionals who will share their career experiences and advice, and another with current college students offering their thoughts on navigating higher education. Additionally, students will have the chance to visit informational tables hosted by local companies, allowing them to connect one-on-one with potential future employers. Breakfast and lunch will be provided for all attendees.

“This is a great opportunity for students to begin planning their future,” says Petak.

She adds that the conference is an opportunity to demonstrate CSM’s commitment to welcoming the Latino community and all students striving to build a brighter future.

“It’ll be great for them to learn about all that Nebraska has to offer them, because we want to keep the talent here,” Petak says.
