Bachelor of Arts Degree in English
Discuss, Write, and Discover
At College of Saint Mary, your bachelor’s degree in English will open doors you never even imagined. With this degree, you can do just about anything because communication is vital in every field.
The best part of this major is that you get to choose your area of concentration — writing or literature. You determine your specific area of interest through your minor and elective courses or dual major to pursue a specific career. Writing and literature is a more traditional English major, preparing you for professional school, writing, publishing, grant writing, public service and many other professions.
Employers, graduate schools and professional schools often seek out College of Saint Mary graduates because they are well-rounded, versatile, and prepared to be community leaders. With a focus on one-on-one, active learning, all courses are taught by faculty members rather than teaching assistants.
Students Find Their Passion Through Their Major
Chloe said she knew she made the right choice with CSM because of the people, including her classmates, staff and faculty.
Chloe, a junior, initially began college as a business major. But she wasn’t sure what she wanted to do. “I’ve had a love for writing for so long that I just switched my major and study a little more that I found a bigger drive and motivation,” said Chloe, now an English major with career aspirations to be a journalist or writer. She’s also seeking three minors in business, communications and Spanish.
“I love that your professors get to know you so well. They want that connection and personal relationship with you, so you succeed,” she said. “Your professors want to know your name, they want to know how you are as a student, and they want to build you up for success by the time you get to graduation. That’s what I was looking for in a college.”
