Occupational Therapy Fieldwork
"Fieldwork education is not only filling the pail, but also lighting the fire."
— Adapted from William Butler Yeates
Types of Fieldwork
Level I Fieldwork
You will have three Level I fieldwork experiences throughout the OT curriculum. Each experience consists primarily of observation with beginning hands on experience in the area of assessment, documentation, and treatment planning and implementation. Specific assignments will be given that allow you to integrate your coursework with real life situations in the clinic.
Level II Fieldwork
You will move to Level II fieldwork during your final semester of the graduate year. Level II fieldwork is an in-depth experience in providing occupational therapy services to the public and is designed to prepare you to practice as an entry level generalist occupational therapist. Each rotation is 12 weeks in length and two Level II experiences are required.
Midwest Regional Fieldwork Consortium (MRFC)
The College of Saint Mary occupational therapy program is a member of the Midwest Regional Fieldwork Consortium. It is the mission of MRFC to provide quality fieldwork education experiences through collaboration of our academic programs, in an effort to develop and support fieldwork sites and educators and to provide a voice to our national association.
